Hydro Tasmania - AJENTI  Project

Ajenti is an end-to-end system for measuring and managing water usage. It combines flexible data capture and reliable communications with sophisticated aggregation and reporting of data. With a web-based front end and a database back end, Ajenti is an innovative, free-standing telemetry system.

The project is federally funded, and sees a partnership between Hydro Tasmania, the State Department of Primary Industries and Water (DPIW) and other local parties.

Initially designed as a tool to monitor irrigation and water use within Tasmania, it was soon recognised that Ajenti could be applied to monitor data in diverse fields such as electricity usage management and environmental monitoring. Ajenti is currently being trialled by Google in Sydney as a tool to monitor sustainable building.

Prologic worked in collaboration with Hydro to complete the detailed design through an iterative approach. The third design was completed in July 2008. Prologic's team of developers worked in conjunction with other developers to design and implement the .ASP.NET presentation and .NET business later components. The system was delivered using Microsoft .NET 2.0.

Ajenti is designed to enable built-in Unit Testing functionality for each component to an agreed standard. Rigorous Acceptance and Integration testing has also been performed.

Version one of Ajenti is in full production; with two help desk operators and two data managers running the system on a daily basis. Currently 700 of a contracted 3000 systems have been installed for DPIW and regional water authorities. The CSIRO has 21 systems installed, and Hydro Tasmania has installed 40 plus systems out of a potential 300.

In South Australia, 97 systems (of a potential 30,000) have been installed for the South Australian Department of Water, Land, Biodiversity and Conservation. These installations have included applications in school settings to monitor school water usage.

Ongoing development to meet performance and scalability needs is currently underway.

Hydro Tasmania - eGO Outage Management Project

Project Cost - At the request of the client Prologic are not permitted to disclose the cost of the project but can reveal that the project should be noted as being large and significant.

Prologic provided a team of developers who were involved in the design, specification, development and the implementation of an Outage Management System. The system was developed with the .NET 2.0 framework. The project was managed internally by Hydro Tasmania.

Special issues associated with the project were that the system supports a key business process - Outage Management.  This is the major touch point between the Asset Management, Production and Water Managers and Trading functions. Stakeholder management, communications etc were particularly important.

New architecture applied with the by-product of this becoming a corporate standard.  Once again a number of stakeholders were to be engaged which added to costs and delays.

APT PRO and HT PM Standards were used as the guiding methodology.  A degree of "agility" and "extremism" was applied given that the functional requirements were open to interpretation.

The delivered application was seen to be a success and Prologic have a Service Level Agreement in place with Hydro to perform a number of hours support per month which may include system enhancements and new releases.

AutoRent Hertz Online Reservations System (October 2006)

Prologic designed, managed, delivered and implemented AutoRent Hertz's current online reservation system. The system was built in J2EE technology and interfaces with the AutoRent Hertz Information System written in PICK .

Prologic have maintained the system since its inception in 2006. Discussions are currently underway to implement a Service Level Agreement.

Driver Knowledge Test System

The Driver Knowledge Test System was developed for the Tasmanian Transport Department and is required to test applicants about road rules and other traffic law.

The system required a highly intuitive interface to enable the general public to run the test with minimal computer skills. It was Developed in a series of stages from concept demonstrator to the eventual system utilising Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) in an Oracle environment.

The Prologic team worked closely with the client to evolve the concept and to verify both the accuracy and the useability of the system.

The Driver Knowledge Test System went live to the public on 14 April 2003 and is now used as part of the standard driving test in Tasmania.

Driver Test Booking System

The Driver Test Booking System (DTBS) was developed for the Registration and Licensing Branch of DIER to provide a new system for booking provisional licence tests. The existing system used by DIER required replacement as it did not cater for state-wide testing arrangements, and was only available to one user. The solution developed by Prologic has rectified these problems by creating a system that is available to all Customer Service Officers in Service Tasmania shops throughout the state.

The system developed by Prologic is a web application which provides a booking component, a reporting component, a maintenance component and a scheduling component. The application is deployed using a J2EE application server. Booking data, XSLT templates, and reference data are stored in an Oracle database.

The approach taken provides a Java (J2EE) solution, comprising a series of Java Server Pages (JSPs) presenting menus, data entry screens and report options navigated with an intuitive and easy to use mouse and keyboard driven system.

The JSPs are supported by Java classes which gather data as XML and use XSLT templates to generate portions of the presented pages in various ways.

The Driver Test Booking System went live in December 2004. Prologic continues to work closely with DIER; providing ongoing support for the DTBS.
